The Thunder Bay Museum's lamp and lighting collection
contains a wide range of types and styles from a 17th-century
rush lamp, that might have been used at the very earliest fur
trading posts in the region, to 19th-century oil lamps and
modern electric fixtures. Many of the Museum's long-term
exhibits are lit by period fixtures from the
collection.
Utilitarian specimins, such
as this copper and brass boat lamp and small ship's lantern
(both from the early 20th century), predominate, perhaps
reflecting the industrial and transportation heritage of
Thunder Bay.
