One of the earliest patents of cutting wood chainsaws goes to Samuel J. Bens in 1905.  This saw had a chain of links with teeth running on the frame.  The first portable one was by James Shand in 918.  This green saw is a Pioneer 650 chainsaw from 1940 that has a tree on the top with blade and chain attached.  It was used in bush camps for pulp cutting.
