Gramophones were first patented in 1887 by Emile Berliner. It was the first successful sound recorder that had small grooves etched into the disk when recording. Once the sound was recorded, a needle could then be used to read and play the sound through the horn. Gramophones were found in many households until around the 1910’s and 20’s when more advanced players were created. While records did diminish in popularity, they have started to make a comeback over the past few years.
