White Otter Castle was built by a man named James Alexander McOuat near Atikokan, Ontario.  He started building the ‘castle’ in 1903 when he was 51 years old and finished it in 1915.  White Otter Castle is a log house that stands 3 storeys tall, with a turret and attached kitchen. Mr. McOuat died in 1918 and he grave is next to the Castle.  To see it today, you have to either portage or snowmobile in the winter.

This is a model of White Otter Castle.  It is elaborately painted and extremely detailed, that includes the castle and shed, shrubs, trees, grass and figurine of Jimmy McOouat.
