๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Heritage Restorations: Vehicles, Engines & Equipment

We are stewards of several unique and historically significant objects that speak to Thunder Bayโ€™s working-class roots, industrial innovation, and everyday life. Some of these items โ€” once proudly used by workers, firefighters, farmers, and aviators โ€” are now in urgent need of restoration to prevent further deterioration and to bring them back to life for display and interpretation.

This is an open call for skilled volunteers, crafts, people, and organizations to take on rewarding, tangible heritage restoration projects in partnership with the Museum.

๐Ÿ”น Current Priority Projects:

๐ŸŸก Historic Milk Delivery Wagon
A large early 20th-century wooden milk wagon, once used in daily urban deliveries, is currently in severe disrepair. Restoration requires structural woodwork, panel repairs, and repainting.

๐ŸŸก Aircraft Engine (Static Display Unit)
A V-8 aircraft engine from our aviation collection โ€” requiring cleaning, stabilization, mounting, and possibly the construction of a custom interpretive display stand. A great opportunity for aviation enthusiasts or trades programs.

๐ŸŸก Early 20th-Century Fire Engine (TBD)
We are exploring restoration options for a retired firefighting vehicle, currently in storage. Restoration scope and feasibility will depend on initial condition assessment and volunteer capacity.

๐ŸŸก Future Projects
We anticipate additional opportunities for large object restoration as part of our expanding collections and exhibit planning. These may include bicycles, carts, signage, industrial tools, and military equipment.
