This is an aluminum fragment for a German Zeppelin shot down at Salonica in Turkey on May 2, 1916. It is an aluminum frame with three pieces of metal held together by bolts. Created by Graf Ferdinand von Zeppelin, German Zeppelins were used in the First World War as both bombers and scouts and were the cause of hundreds of casualties. The Salonica Front, also known as the Macedonian Front was a theatre of war in which the Allies provided aide to Serbia through an attack on Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Bulgaria.
