Devices such as these, known as “Spiders”, were responsible for the tight curls and waves popular in the 1920s. Beauty parlours grew in importance in this decade as almost everyone felt a need to be “in style”. Perhaps the prosperity of the times also made it possible for a greater number of people to afford the attentions of a professional hair stylist.
